Climate and environment
The Danish Maritime Authority works actively to reduce emissions from ships, internationally as well as nationally.
Nationally, focus is on reducing emissions from shipping in cooperation with companies, shipowners as well as research and educational institutions.
An important part of this work consists in creating improved framework conditions for research, development, demonstration and innovation.
Internationally, Denmark works actively to create binding, global regulations on emission reductions. This work is carried out within the framework of the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO).
An important part of this work consists in developing proposals for specific regulations and best practices aimed especially at reducing CO2 emissions from the shipping industry.
As a part of Denmark’s preparations for the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (COP15) in December 2009, the Danish Maritime Authority takes part in the work of the Business Panel on Climate Change.
