Call for proposals on Motorways of the Sea in the Baltic Sea area
Under the TEN-T programme (trans-European transport network), the EU offers support for so-called Motorways of the Sea projects.

Motorways of the Sea projects are defined as projects the purpose of which is to concentrate goods transport on transport routes between ports in order to either improve existing maritime transport links or establish new, regular and frequent maritime transport links for goods transport between the Member States.
Motorways of the Sea are to be considered a part of the overall logistical systems with maritime transport, ports and hinterland connections.
The Baltic Sea countries cooperate on the development of the concept of Motorways of the Sea and hereby urge consortia consisting of, at least, ports and transport suppliers to propose projects on Motorways of the Sea in the Baltic Sea area.
It is possible for Motorways of the Sea projects to be granted support of up to 20 per cent of the overall project costs as TEN-T priority projects, while studies and pilot projects can get support of up to 50 per cent. Motorways of the Sea, pilot projects and studies must, as a minimum, deal with the establishment and development of facilities or infrastructure (for example in the form of access ways to and from ports) in at least two ports situated in at least two states. At least two countries must propose specific projects and the proposals must combine public and private interests.
The entire notification of the call for proposals is available here, as are more detailed guidelines on who can apply and how to proceed.
The call for proposals is also available in Danish from the webpage of the Ministry of Transport.
Please observe that the next deadline for submitting project proposals to the Commission is 31 August 2010. Since the proposals are to be considered in the Member States, it is important to contact the relevant Member States about possible projects as soon as possible.
