More training in innovation and entrepreneurship underway to the maritime training programmes

03. June 2010
How do we ensure that the Danish maritime training programmes continue to develop and are among the best worldwide?

At the end of last week, the Danish Maritime Authority held a seminar on entrepreneurship for rectors and teachers at the maritime training institutions.

How is an innovative learning environment created? How do we get more entrepreneurs? How do you quite specifically make pupils and students develop new ways of solving problems in a company or organisation?

Many questions were asked at the two-day seminar held by the Danish Maritime Authority in late May in the town of Billund. Here, the Danish Maritime Authority and a number of experienced persons in this field had gathered rectors and employees from all the maritime training programmes to give them some tools and ideas for implementing innovation and entrepreneurship at the respective training programmes following the government’s strategy on entrepreneurship training.

The outcome of the seminar was, in the words of many of the participants, very rewarding and positive. One of the speakers, Deputy Director-General Lisbet Dyerberg, says:

”The development of the maritime training programmes is a considerable competitive parameter, and the young people who are educated at the maritime training institutions must be able to think new thoughts, see possibilities and turn ideas into action. It is my clear impression that the desire and will to turn innovation and entrepreneurship into an important element of the maritime training programmes is there. And I look forward to seeing the result of the coming work.”

The seminar has been arranged in cooperation with the Fund for Entrepreneurship (“Fonden for Entreprenørskab”), which was established in connection with the government’s strategy on more entrepreneurship within the entire field of education. The overall purpose of the seminar was to create a common understanding of training in and on entrepreneurship at the maritime training institutions and to share knowledge about entrepreneurship.
