Summary of the 87th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 87) of the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization



The main subjects were prevention of acts of piracy in the Gulf of Aden with focus on the seafarers, evidence gathering and ship surveillance, the adoption of new principles for the approval of regulations on the construction of bulk carriers and tankers (Goal Based Standards – GBS), risk analyses for the development of ship safety rules as well as the finalisation of systems for satellite ship surveillance (LRIT).
