Research projects on the reduction of ship emissions wanted
A new call gives universities, research institutes and companies a possibility of applying for funds for the development of maritime technologies aimed at reducing ship emissions.

The Danish Maritime Authority participates in a European network on research and development of maritime technologies (ERA-NET MARTEC). The network is financed by the European Union.
As part of the network’s activities, a call has been opened for the creation of cross-national consortia on maritime technology projects in the network’s member states (for more information, please see www.martec-era.net). Danish universities, research institutes and companies, etc. can apply for funds for such activities.
Danish participation in the call must be based on the Danish Maritime Authority’s work with a maritime research, development and innovation strategy, the vision of which is:
To reduce emissions from ship transport by developing environmentally-efficient and energy-efficient maritime technologies and systems.
The strategy is composed of four sub-themes:
-
Energy-efficient energy systems for ships, including the development of existing technologies, the use of natural gas and fuel cells, etc.
-
Effective and optimised ship propulsion, including hull shapes, propellers and hull paint.
-
Effective ship operation and maintenance.
-
Optimised transport chains.
As regards Danish participation in the call, reference is made to the Danish Maritime Fund as well as to the subsidy possibilities of the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.
The call is open from 3 to 31 May 2010.
The aim of ERA-NET MARTEC is to establish a permanent network focusing on the development of maritime technologies through transnational calls for maritime technology programmes. Typically, the calls will be smaller than calls under the EU framework programmes for technological research and development and make it possible to develop more nationally focused strength positions.
The participants in the network are institutions financing research as well as ministries and agencies responsible for research and development in the field. Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany, France and Spain are members of the network. Efforts are being made to extend the number of participating countries.
