Ship stability on the IMO agenda

21. January 2011
The United Nations’ International Maritime Organization has just held a meeting in the Sub-Committee on Stability, Load Lines and Fishing Vessel Safety.

The summary is available in its entirety here.

The meeting, which was held at the IMO headquarters in London, focused on the work drafting international regulations on improved ship stability. In this connection, the participants – including the Danish Maritime Authority – debated the following subjects:

  • The next generation of the Code on Intact Stability.
  • New regulations for enhancing fishing vessel safety (however, these regulations have already been transposed into national Danish regulations).
  • Watertight doors.
  • A revision of leak stability, SOLAS 2009.

Finally, a revision of the TM69 Convention on the tonnage measurement of ships was discussed at this session.
