Last week the Danish Maritime Authority hosted for the first time a cross-partner workshop under the framework of Strategic Sector Cooperations, bringing together environmental experts and Port State control officers from Kenya, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines alongside experts from the Danish Maritime Authority and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.

The workshop aimed to facilitate the exchange of best practices for implementing and enforcing IMO regulations on sulphur emissions (SOx) and ballast water management. Through interactive sessions, cases, and peer-to-peer dialogue, participants shared challenges and solutions to enhance compliance with international maritime standards.

One participant noted:

We have learned many valuable things. From the first day we have learned of the joint responsibility of the Danish Maritime Authority’s inspectors and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. We have learned very important lessons from the experts’ personal experience.

Strategic Sector Cooperations (SSCs) are a government-to-government cooperation that promotes equal partnerships between Danish public authorities and national partner authorities, strengthening capacity and fostering sustainable development in the maritime sector.
