It is once again time to renew CLC, Bunkers, Athens, and Wreck Removal certificates

Published 16-12-2025

Shipping companies are advised to submit applications for certificate renewal to the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) well in advance of 20 February 2026. Ships subject to certification may only operate with valid certificates.

If expedited processing is required, shipping companies are encouraged to use MobilePay or credit card as payment methods. If payment by invoice is requested, issuance of the invoice may take several days, and the certificate issuance process will only commence once payment has been received.

Invoices will not be issued during the period from 19 December 2025 to 5 January 2026.

Payment

  • MobilePay / credit card – shortest processing time, as payment is received immediately. The receipt may be used for accounting purposes.
  • Bank transfer – certificate issuance will only commence once the transfer has been received. No receipt or invoice is issued when payment is made by bank transfer.
  • Invoice – longer processing time from receipt of the application. Issuance of the invoice may take up to a few days, and case processing will only commence once payment has been received.

Please note that, as of 3 November 2025, the Danish Maritime Authority has changed address to the one stated below. Blue Cards must state the correct recipient address.

Guidance for applying for certificates through the DMA’s self-service | dma.dk

Shipping companies operating multiple ships are encouraged to submit a consolidated application, with a maximum of 20 ships per application for each certificate type. Using the link provided, complete a single application form containing details for each ship for which certificates are requested. Attach the Blue Cards for each ship under “Documents,” preferably as a ZIP file, and state the total number of ships in the comments field.

Applications for certificates issued by the DMA are typically based on insurance guarantees (Blue Cards) provided by insurance companies within the International Group of P&I Clubs (IG). Each year, many IG Blue Cards expire at the end of the maritime insurance year on 20 February, and the same applies to DMA certificates based on these IG Blue Cards. Timely renewal of expired certificates will therefore be significantly facilitated if shipping companies submit their applications as early as possible ahead of 20 February 2026.

The DMA has pre-approved the IG companies and their Blue Cards until further notice. However, approval of other insurance companies and their Blue Cards must be renewed annually by the DMA. As this approval process may, in some cases, take some time, shipping companies holding Blue Cards issued by such insurers are also advised to apply for certificate renewal well in advance.

The DMA accepts Blue Cards from approved insurance companies in electronic form. Furthermore, the DMA issues electronic insurance certificates for ships that meet the conditions for issuance.
