Adoption of the 17th package of sanctions against Russia and Belarus

Published 21-05-2025

The EU has added 189 new vessels to its list of designated ships and introduced a new prohibition under the latest sanctions package.

On 20 May 2025, amendments were adopted to, inter alia, EU Council Regulation 833/2014 of 31 July 2014 concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine, and EU Council Regulation 269/2014 of 17 March 2014 concerning restrictive measures in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

With the amendments, 189 new vessels have been designated in Annex XLII to Article 3s of EU Council Regulation 833/2014.

Other recent changes include the introduction of an article entailing new restrictions towards vessels, as listed in annex II to the Council Regulation (EU) 2024/2642 concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia’s destabilizing activities.

Most sanctions regimes are subject to ongoing updates. We therefore encourage all stakeholders to follow changes closely. An overview of the current EU sanctions is available at sanctionsmap.eu.
