From 13 to 22 May, the IMO Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communication and Search and Rescue (NCSR) held its annual meeting.

Part of the Danish delegation in the plenary hall on day 1 of the NCSR meeting at IMO headquarters in London.

The Danish Maritime Authority led a delegation of national experts from the Danish Defence, the Danish Geodata Agency, the Danish Emergency Management Agency, and stakeholders from Danish Shipping and SIMAC.

The agenda was extensive and diverse, covering topics such as the development of augmentation systems for more accurate GNSS positioning, amendments to SOLAS chapters IV and V, finalization of performance standards and guidelines for VDES, continued development of ECDIS S-100 products, and updated guidelines for the use of electronic nautical publications and software maintenance.

The Sub-Committee also endorsed a proposal from the European Union, Intertanko and others to amend the resolutions covering the ship reporting systems in the Sound (SOUNDREP) and the Great Belt (BELTREP). Subject to final approval by the Maritime Safety Committee next year, the amendments will expand the reporting requirements for vessels transiting these areas to include certificates of insurance – such as the CLC certificate, which covers liability for oil pollution damage during oil transport.
