On 16 September, the 12th edition of the annual Sino-Danish Shipping Consultations was held with China’s Ministry of Transport. The meeting addressed developments in international shipping, including the need for open markets and fair competition to safeguard global supply chains. Both parties also emphasized that the path toward climate-neutral shipping must be based on global regulation through the IMO, and that Denmark and China will work closely together to secure a majority for the climate agreement at the upcoming MEPC meeting in October.
On 17 September, the annual Director-General meeting with the China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) followed. The long-term cooperation between the two authorities was further strengthened with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding on maritime cooperation. At the same meeting, the Danish Maritime Accident Investigation Board concluded an agreement with MSA on cooperation in the investigation of maritime accidents. To address the growing issue of substandard vessels in the global maritime sector, both sides agreed to cooperate, including sharing information on tankers with safety challenges and false registrations.
Both China and Denmark are among the world’s leading maritime nations, and with the meetings in Beijing, both countries remain focused on continuing their cooperation toward a safe, prosperous, and sustainable future for the maritime sector.
